I think the art supply business has to be a strain, since it so fragmented and so characterized by customers who have wildly extraordinary ranges of needs and wants. I don’t see much movement in the technical side of the W&N site, or many new videos. Within a week, I had a mailer from them to return to tube for their study and a package with three tubes of fresh yellow in compensation. Maybe 3-4 years ago, I voiced a concern about a tube of Artisan yellow that had literally clotted in the tube. I agree that years ago, the response was quick and thorough. Reeves, Conte, Lefranc & Bourgeois, Liquitex, and, of course, on the high end, Snazaroo… either way, spread thin, or huge, customer service may well be declining. There was a rumor going around the Internet that Winsor & Newton has already stopped production of Cadmium oil paints. – I realize that there is talk overseas of banning the use of Cadmium in artists’ paints. Is this just the nature of water mixable paints or am I doing something wrong? Also, are Artisans considered “student grade” paint as compared to your Artists traditional line? When I use Artisan paints, I notice that they seem to feel a little tacky on the surface of my paintings even when dry. – I usually use traditional oils but I decided to try some water mixables. Is there any way I can send them to you in exchange for replacements that will open? Are you doing something to improve the inferior caps that you are using? Surely others have experienced this frustration. I can longer return the bottles that I have. No amount of pushing and turning (attempted by four different people!) on the others could budge them. – I have purchased six 75ml bottles of Winsor & Newton drying oils and mediums The caps on only TWO of them will open. Maybe someone here on this forum has answers because I cannot find answers anywhere else: I am pasting below the concerns that I wanted answers for. I have found lately that not only is customer service non-existent at Winsor & Newton, their products (specifically their oil paints) are not the quality they once were. When I asked the questions that I’ve been trying to get answers for, you guessed it, it’s been nearly 2 weeks and still NO RESPONSE.:confused: VERY WEIRD. This time, someone emailed me back within a day asking how they can help. After waiting and waiting, I sent them yet another email with a very angry tone, stating my dismay at their apparent lack of concern about a long-time customer. Despite the fact that their website states “A representative will get back to you within 2 days”, I got NO response. Recently, I emailed them 3 times over the course of a couple weeks through their website with a few simple questions/concerns. But now, any time I contact them with questions, I get no response. It used to be that if I ever had an inquiry about any of their products, I got a swift & thorough answer to my emails. I am a professional artist and have used W&N products for YEARS. I felt compelled to see if any other artists out there have experienced similar issues with Winsor & Newton. I’d stick with WN for that particular color.This is my first post here. Much like the rest of Rembrandt’s line, it leaves something to be desired. I bought Rembrandt’s version of PY128 a while back. It’s all overpriced, of course, but WN does have a few good colors. Cadmium Scarlet, Cobalt Blue Deep, and Rose Madder Genuine are all excellent. However, I think their Cremnitz White is pretty decent stuff. Their Flake White #1 is certainly atrocious, and it’s only gotten worse since the Zinc content was increased. I am well aware that others quite enjoy it. Their paint is ridiculously overpriced for the mediocre quality offered. I AM using up whatever W & N paints I own, and don’t intend to buy any more again……….except their Transparent Yellow 653. Don’t know, as I have not tried Rembrandt’s yet. However Rembrandt also offers it, and I may switch to that in the future. I do use W & N Transparent Yellow 653 (PY128), and I will continue to use it. A particular, proprietary, and necessary color always trumps overall paint quality, price, handling, etc.
